ARTIST STATEMENT

My research-based practice investigates entanglements between ecology, colonial histories, and cultures of consumption. Working with clay and textiles, I examine how land, plants, and bodies were remade into resources. Through archival research at botanical gardens, I trace these historical remakings of nature.

Extending beyond institutional records, I also forage plants from these gardens to map the material residues of imperial botany. Moving away from human exceptionalism, my practice adopts a more-than-human lens. By centring plants and insects as historical agents rather than passive backdrops, I trace how botanical worlds were classified, displaced, and commodified within imperial networks, reflecting on colonialism’s enduring ruination.

ABOUT

I am a ceramic artist, currently pursuing MA in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art London, supported by the President and Vice Chancellor International Scholarship.
I graduated with a bachelors degree in product design in 2003. This was followed by more than a decade long stint in the industry, during which I got to experiment and create with multiple materials. Luckily for me, my work took me around the world, and I always found myself drawn to ceramics on these travels. However, it was only much later in 2017, that I discovered working with clay through a community studio that I joined on a whim. With time I realised that I connected with ceramics at a deeper level, it helped me express thoughts that were otherwise hard to verbalise.
I have had some wonderful opportunities to exhibit my work in India and abroad. I currently work out of RCA studios in London and my studio in Bangalore, where I continue to explore…unlearn and learn the beautiful medium of clay.
